During the initial stages of development for the Freerider, we would dream of what it would feel like and how far we could push it. Telephony Media has made that part of the dream come true with “Skate Test Dummy”. It was fun to see the Skatecycle in action before we had it in our hands so we thought you might enjoy it as well (Skate Test Dummy, Free download, only on iTunes). As a bonus you can use the AR anvil marker in the Brooklyn Workshop section to play with the augmented reality app on the main flash site. Just look for the AR tab on the upper right hand side.
This post serves as an information page for the app.
The game will begin with a short movie clip. After the video is done you will automatically be set on the home page.
The home page has 3 options. Play, Brooklyn Workshop, and Freerider. Use your finger to swipe (rotate) the discs to bring your selection to the front. Select the button to activate option.
Brooklyn Workshop: This is the page with the AR marker. Center the marker on the screen so just a bit of white can be seen on the edge top and bottom. Go to a computer with a webcam, then go to brooklynworkshop.com. You will see on the website a tab on the upper right hand side that says “AR”. Click on that and then click “allow” to allow the camera to be turned on. When you see yourself hold the AR marker to the camera for the AR game simulation to begin. Make sure there is adequet light in the room and adjust the screen brightness to get optimal results.
Freerider: This selection takes you to a rotatable skatecycle. The one in the game is the A12 Skatecycle which is a prototoype of the Freerider.
Play: This selection takes you to the game. to play, simply tilt the phone to get momentum. You can swirl the rider to perform rail slides, or tilt back and forth, causing the rider to jump in the air. The trick is to balance the rider while in the air to land him back in the same bowl or an adjacent bowl. Keep an eye on his shadow to see where he will land.
Have fun!
